Kim Kardashian is never far from a controversy, especially when it comes to beauty standards — and the prestigious Met Gala is no different.

The star posed on the red carpet with the likes of Lana Del Rey as the other eldest Kardashian sisters ditched the huge New York event.

The Met Gala almost wouldn’t be complete without Kim causing a stir but this year many are saying she’s gone too far in the name of fashion.

We’re two years on from her controversial decision to wear Marilyn Monroe’s priceless dress for the In America theme but this time it’s not the garment fans are concerned for.

For 2024’s Garden of Time look, the Skims founder donned a Maison Margiela corset and cinched her waist within an inch of it’s life.

That unattainable figure seemed to be a struggle for even Kim as she appeared to be short of breath on the Met Gala runway.

She flashed the silver corset, with cascading silver leaf detailing making up a see-through floor length skirt.

Her look was completed with a grey cropped John Galliano cardigan, which she delicately clasped around her shoulders.

Kim wore her platinum blonde hair down around her face, subtly hitting back at speculation she has bleach damaged it so much it fell out in a so-called chemical cut.

However, stunning the dress was, fans were not impressed by the extreme corsetry from the media mogul.

‘Y’all Kim k can’t breathe in this dress…’ wrote Ayah on X with a video of the reality star walking and looking uncomfortable as she took short shallow breaths.

‘She’s obviously struggling to grasp her breath,’ replied Odogwu Anioma as manicore added: ‘Kim give it up i know your intestines are BEGGING for help.’

‘Good this should be a telltale sign that she is NOT the direction we should be going in for beauty and fashion,’ added cowboylikejonah.

‘Kim K literally looks like she’s going to faint trying to breath[e] in her dress,’ added Kassidy.

Ciandria shared: ‘Mam. We don’t care about how small your waist is. You shouldn’t care either. Let it out girl! Don’t let the internet do you like that.’

As the Kardashian family are so often key in influencing major trends, Kim’s snatched waist could do more than just damage her ability to breath.

Fans are concerned this will spark a return to horrifically small waists and pressure, particularly on femme-presenting people, to be increasingly thinner.

However, as plastic surgery becomes more commonplace the expectation and standard for desirable bodies slips further away from what humans actually look like.

While Kim has likely used the drag technique of padding to push out her bum and make her waist look smaller, the impact on impressionable people is the same.

Hopefully, the Skims founder’s difficulty breathing will counteract any desire to bring back comically small waists as a beauty standard.
