Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis-Woodhall have been the talking points at this year’s Olympics and Paralympics. The couple won gold medals in their respective sports of high jumping and track and field.

After winning, both of their first instincts were to hug their significant others in the stands. This made for two great moments and thus got them trending on social media. People wanted to know more about the couple.

The athletes met each other in 2017, back when they were in high school. They got engaged four years later, right after the Tokyo Olympics. Before that, they had been in a long-distance relationship because of their colleges being far away from each other.

They finally tied the knot on October 16, 2022, in Texas, which Hunter Woodhall termed their ‘fairytale ending’.

The couple has since then been going strong, climbing every obstacle together. They have talked about their relationship numerous times on a public platform.

In the September 11th episode of the Olympics.com podcast, Tara Davis-Woodhall was asked about her perspective of Hunter Woodhall as a para-athlete.

She replied, “No, I never looked at Hunter to have a disability. I kind of forget that he has two prosthetics most of the time.

So I think the only part that would ever change is just him taking off his legs and that’s not really often. He doesn’t use his disability as any excuse, so it’s pretty refreshing to see that and to just watch him do what he does. It’s very inspirational.”

It is an interesting look at the matter as the couple now celebrate victory after facing their series of issues throughout the years.

The couple has both gone through a series of individual problems during their athletic careers. Hunter Woodhall had to deal with losing his legs at just 11 months old because of fibular hemimelia. For this, he was bullied during his childhood.

But, he never gave in to his circumstances, persevering through them and emerging as a champion. Tara Davis-Woodhall, on the other hand, was suspended from track and field in 2021 because of THC in her body, mainly found in marijuana.

She was also stripped of her Indoor World Championship title because of this. But the athlete didn’t let that shake her determination, and now she is an Olympic gold medallist.

With both Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis-Woodhall winning their respective competitions, it was obvious that they had shared some of their tips to each other.

But, it was more than that. Apparently, they both shared a secret weapon during the competition. It was first used by Tara, and then Hunter used it after seeing it becoming successful.

Tara-Davis Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall’s secret weapon during the Olympics and Paralympics

Being an athletic couple, Tara-Davis Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall have trained together and sometimes use similar tactics. That’s what they did when they were competing in the Olympics and the Paralympics.

Hunter Woodhall realised that journaling had helped Tara a lot during the Olympics. The high jumper had written down in her journal before the competition, saying, “‘I will be the Olympic champ, and I am strong and fast.”

That’s exactly what happened as she went on to win her first ever Olympic gold. Thus, Hunter had to follow suit.

He told USA Today, “Tara has taught me a lot, and one of them has been like the power of self-affirmation and journaling.”. Then, he added what he had been writing: “I brought my journal in these past few days, I’ve been writing in there, ‘I will be the Paralympic champion.’”

That wish has come true too. Thus, the couple have pushed each other to their best possible heights and have climbed summits together. Hopefully, they will do it in the future too.
