It’s nothing but elation for Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall at the moment. Just a month after the Texas Longhorns alum hauled gold in the women’s long jump at the 2024 Paris Games, her husband matched her triumph in the Paralympics in the men’s T62 400m race.
With that, they have chanced upon their biggest milestone as a couple after tying the knot in 2022. But the track power couple probably knew something like this was on its way.
The duo was in deep preparation mode ahead of the big rumble and the City of Love didn’t let them with empty hands either. It was a joint venture and they couldn’t have asked for a better ending to their individual stints on the grandest stage of them all.
Their confidence in each other’s capabilities remained unwavering and the 2024 World Indoor Championships gold medalist also postponed reveling in her gold-winning performance just so she could celebrate along with her husband.
In an interview with PEOPLE on September 9, the Davis-Woodhall couple narrated how they embarked on the journey together and how ecstatic it feels to have both won the ultimate prize with the Eiffel Tower as their witness.
Talking about how she felt her emotions running high seeing Hunter race, the long jumper Tara Davis-Woodhall said, “We’ve just been thinking about this moment for so long, so like, for it to be playing out in front of me, I was like, ‘oh my gosh, there’s no going back now.’ I didn’t really want to process [my win] a month ago because I wanted to do it together.”
Her husband chimed in and claimed that their accomplishments were bound to happen, especially with both of them supporting each other’s dreams at every step of the way.
They had “blind faith” in the fact that their Parisian summer would be one to remember, revealed the Paralympian. With that, he also noted that they arrived at the French capital with the aim of making the most of the opportunity at hand.
“We trusted that everything was going to work out the way it needed to, and we just had to show up, do our best and enjoy it,” said Hunter, who shed light on the simple plan they devised for themselves. But they had their reasons to do as good as they did.
Tara Davis-Woodhall never left Hunter’s corner, and vice versa
Both the athletes were ousted from the medal race three years ago in Tokyo. Naturally, the Woodhall couple was eager to prove their mettle this time around, and they didn’t leave the fans hanging.
They made sure to execute their cheerleading responsibilities as vehemently as possible to supply each other with all the motivation to keep pushing through even when things got tiresome.
“We’re always cheering on one another…I definitely don’t think either of us would be at the level we’re at without the level of support that we provide for each other, as well as the team that surrounds us,” said Hunter in an interview in July.
Justifiably, with their constant support for each other, both Tara Davis-Woodhall and her better half have been brimming with oomph ahead of the quadrennial events in Paris.
“I will be the Olympic champ, and I am strong and fast,” said Tara to herself ahead of the Olympics, while her husband noted, “I will be the Paralympic champion.”
And they proved how a couple can help each other to greatness. Tara’s 7.10m gold-winning performance enthralled fans, while Hunter’s sensational 46.36 finish made the onlookers gasp with excitement. Now that the dust has settled over the French metropolitan games, fans look forward to what’s next for the celebrity track couple.
