A WORLD War Two hero who guarded the Royals during The Blitz and helped liberate the Belsen death camp has been snubbed by a council.
Eddie Straight, 95, was also sent to fight the Japanese in Burma after the Nazis surrendered and survived being shot.

Eddie Straight has been refused the Freedom of the Borough because his bravery happened outside the area
He was refused the Freedom of the Borough of Redcar and Cleveland because his gallantry came outside the borough.
Eddie, from Saltburn, North Yorks, was nominated by Craig Hornby, who has made a film about him.
Craig said: “I want a war hero to be honoured while he is still alive to appreciate it.”

Nearly 2,000 people have signed his petition in support.
The council plans to change its rules.
