According to recent reports, Sergio Perez might face the axe at Red Bull at the end of this season. Daniel Ricciardo is reportedly being considered as a replacement if the downward trajectory of the Mexican driver continues.

Sergio Perez’s form of late has reportedly been a concern for the Milton Keynes squad. While his teammate Max Verstappen has continued to secure pole position and race wins, Perez has had to settle only for points in the past few races.

Despite starting the season well, the Mexican failed to keep up his form. Perez claimed two early podiums in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia and another in Japan. With this, he picked up three P2s from the first four races. However, his recent form has reportedly put him in danger.

As per Auto Motor Und Sport, Perez might see his seat go to Ricciardo, who has had an upward trajectory comparatively. Ricciardo, driving an RB, impressed the fans as well as experts as he finished within points in two of the last three races.

Daniel Ricciardo, the eight-time GP winner, is P13 in the Drivers’ Championship with 11 points. Sergio Perez, who recently renewed his contract with Red Bull, is in P5 with 118 points.

While recent reports about Daniel Ricciardo’s potential switch to Red Bull have emerged, Helmut Marko hinted earlier that the Australian driver might lose the seat to Liam Lawson.

Lawson impressed the top brass with his cameo last year when he drove as Ricciardo’s replacement. Marko claimed earlier this year that the New Zealander might join the VCARB as Yuki Tsunoda’s teammate in 2025, citing Ricciardo’s underperformance against Tsunoda.

However, Ricciardo is seemingly undeterred. He claimed that he understands that F1 is a performance-based sport and that paddock chatter does not affect him. Ricciardo was quoted as saying (via Racingnews365.com):

“If I perform, I feel like there is a very good chance to stay here and that will be the dominant and most overriding factor. It doesn’t affect my performance and I’m not driving the car now thinking I am fighting for my seat. Maybe two years ago when I lost my seat [I was but] I don’t live with a fear of this.”

“I didn’t read [Marko’s comments] actually but obviously I am informed about these things and the way I see it is simple. It will always be performance-based and me coming back to the Red Bull family is something that I really love. It is a nice story and all that, but it isn’t done and that is what I am trying to do,” he added.

It will be interesting to see what trajectory Daniel Ricciardo’s F1 career takes as he is reportedly close to losing his RB seat. On the other hand, he is also allegedly a favorite to replace Sergio Perez at Red Bull in 2025.
