Rihanna finally opened up why she named her male second child Rose and who she named him after. The singer, who gave birth to her son in June 2024, revealed the meaning behind his unusual name in an interview with Vogue magazine.

She said that Rose was a tribute to her late grandmother, Clara “Dolly” Braithwaite, who passed away in 2012 after a battle with cancer.

“My grandma was the most important person in my life. She raised me, she taught me, she inspired me. She was my best friend, my guardian angel, my hero.

She was the one who called me Robyn, which is my real name. She was the one who gave me the nickname Rihanna, which is now my stage name.

She was the one who encouraged me to pursue my dreams and to never give up. She was the one who supported me through everything, good and bad.

She was the one who loved me unconditionally, no matter what.” Rihanna said, with tears in her eyes.

Rihanna said that her grandmother’s favorite flower was the rose, and that she always had roses in her house and garden. She said that she wanted to honor her memory and legacy by naming her son after her favorite flower.

She said that she also wanted to challenge the gender stereotypes and norms that associate certain names and colors with certain genders. She said that she believed that names and colors have no gender, and that they can be used by anyone, regardless of their sex.
